Padma Shri Late Shri Haku Shah was an institution in himself. He was an eminent artist, a cultural anthropologist, teacher, Gandhian ambassador and authority of international repute on folk and tribal art. He was invited to curate "Unknown India", on tribal ritual art, with art historian Dr. Stella Kramrisch for the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 1968. He also contributed to the richness of the Festival of Indian exhibitions in UK, USA and Japan. His works are in various collections, private and institutional, in India and abroad. Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) recently held a show exhibiting a vast array of his paintings, terracotta sculptures, textile scrolls, books, journals and periodicals.
