Piraji Sagara (1931-2014)
Piraji was a versatile artist who could work across various mediums be it wood, metal, stone, canvas or paper. He was a gifted artist who loved evolving. He introduced wood collages and was known for them. He obtained formal education in Drawing and in Arts from Sir J. J. School of Art. He taught art at CEPT University Ahmedabad. The Faculty of Architecture in CEPT University is named after him.
Piraji’s works have been exhibited across the world - Sao Paulo Biennale, Brazil in 1971; 'Art now in India' exhibition, Europe 1972-73. He was invited to the 12th International Festival of Painters at Cagnes-sur-Mer, France.
Piraji was a recipient of many awards including the national Lalit Kala Akademi award, New Delhi in 1963. His works have been in major national and international collections and appear frequently at leading auction houses across the world.
Piraji passed away in 2014.
